    A useful comment but you missed one point. The gov is going to shut down the copper wire ADSL network so everyone will have to switch to the NBN. It will not be a commercial undertaking because it will be run as a government owned and controlled monopoly, just like the telephone system in the 1950's. So normal market economics dont apply. It will be protected by legislation - no competition for example. But how will they ever privatise it? It is a white elephant because there can be no worthwhile return on the investment that would attract private capital to invest.

    There is another point that has not been adequately exlained. Part of the justification for the NBN was that hospitals need the high speed cable for moving digital data around. Well a doctor friend of mine has told me that hospitals already have dedicated optic fibre cable for this very purpose, as do many other businesses and universities already. So we have been told a lot of lies about the need for an NBN.
