Why would you need more than 1 connection in a household

I currently have one for home internet, one for work internet (from home), 4 mobile phones and one fixed phone line. I wont get all that for one $35 wholesale charge.
Many households do not have wired Internet now, why would they suddenly want it or need it when NBN comes out?
