Any estimation of NBN Co revenues needs to keep in mind that only part of the retail charges of ISPs/telephone providers will flow through. The wholesale fees NBN receives will presumably be set by the ACCC and should approximate the amounts ISPs and Telstra (retail) currently pay for access to and use of the Telstra network. The value of the wholesale components of monthly payments for retail telephone and/or broadband is considerably less than the retail ISP and any landline fees we are currently charged.
Any NBN breakeven retail fibre-to-the-home retail tariff estimate needs to include and separate out an estimate of the costs and margin of ISPs/land line providers. Only the wholesale component counts when guessing how much extra NBN Co will cost all taxpayers each month.
