... Interesting comment by Prof Reg Coutts about satellite BB in SMH.com.au today:
"The expert panel that recommended the NBN pointed out that third-generation satellite systems now being deployed in North America and Europe have the potential to provide a robust broadband service supporting voice over internet protocol and interactive high bandwidth web services.
However, the 'satellite brand' for telecommunications in Australia is severely damaged. This is not because of intrinsic technological limitations, but commercial disincentives on the supply side of the industry in Australia, including lack of sufficient alternatives from satellite suppliers, the old proprietary ground-segment technologies in current use and the low 'provisioning rate' by service providers, in part due to the distortion in the market caused by the Government's long-standing broadband guarantee program."
