a couple weeks ago, jemster posted a good question re: porphyry deposits that no one has been able to answer.

I flicked this question of to Peter to get his response, he has said he is ok if i post his answer, so refer below.

Mate, someone on HC posted a question that I believe is a really good one, that no 1 has been able to answer.

Are you able to provide one for me with ur geo background?

An extract of the persons question is as follows:

“I have been to Andewa, it is a massive area. I am no geo but those that are all got excited on the aerial results.... would it be possible that the whole thing is low grade without any hotter areas or is it more like these things always have hotter areas and you just need to find it”

How would you reply to that mate?

I’m on holiday for another week actually!
Deposits are like people – they conform to certain norms and are different in many others. As a porphyry gold it must have a ‘core’ – hot in the middle and cooler towards the outside
There is always a grade distribution in deposits. The answer is no according to mineralogy and clay alteration studies.
Newcrest are happy enough with it still. (he posted the extract from the NCM announcement here, but i havent uploaded it).

so, there is a core somewhere! we just got to nail it, hopefully this vectoring helps when phase 2 starts in 2013.
