The biggest driver of improvements to society and humanity has been risk capital and free markets, that's where the major improvements in quality of life and longevity(health) have come from, not from governments stealing from someone to give to someone else, that's what's lead to the downfall of many nations.
Any govt scheme that is unsustainable eventually leads to the scheme collapsing and no one benefiting from it or your standard answer of tax people more to pay will just lead to the collapse of the country and everyone struggling for survival instead
