Checkout sodium-ion batteries - BYD are looking at their small Seagull end of this year with sodium-ion.
At the end of the day its like NdPr in motor magnets. Cheaper substitution may occur, but I think there will always be a market for the better quality components.The commodity prices coming down doesn't help the substitution case either as eventually price gets low enough for the status quo!
