Shorts are used for day trading and covering bets. The only shorts that effect any stock over time are open shorts which has a 4 day delay before you can see it. Shorts went up with the SAR release because many shorters thought they stock would go down. On Feb 16 Shorts went over 7% for the first time since SS bank sold the MT K shares and used shorts to stabilize and keep the price from dropping while these shares were sold. Since then Shorts have been unchanged to their 7.01 % to day. Can any of the posters above show me any where in the last few year where shorts caused a drop in SP s. The simple fact is shorters want to make money just like you and me to do this they have to sell shares short when stock is up and buy to cover when price drops. This stabilizes the big price swings and that is why every major exchange Allows them. SAR was 26 feb
If you want to believe that shorts cause the downward moves that is fine with me. JMO you are losing a great opportunity to understand stocks by blaming shorts. The only way to make money in market is understand what drives it. To blame something that is a minor force will cause you to miss the important things.
