Very interesting but I do not know how accurate. In percent terms the Nd in magnets rose more especially the low end magnets ( my nick name refrigerator magnets). NdPr is about 27% of a perm magnet by weight, they are sold by weight. Iron prices have moved less than 2 % in last two months. If you consider all the change in magnet prices as being caused by Nd than the price of the Nd in magnets has gone up more than 2x what NdPrO has gone up.
I will be the first to admit that this analysis is not that accurate there are many other things like labor and equipment expense I did not consider but for the Article to say the magnets did not reflect the changes in NdPrO is just wrong. Go to SMM look up the cost of Iron Nd and B and you will quickly figure out material is less the 50% of the cost on simple magnets and less that 25% of complex magnets like 48MH and 50 MH. If you want to work it out for yourselves here is what you need.
Perm magnets Nd2 Fe14 B
Atomic mass Nd 140.1, Fe 55.8, B 10.3
