In regard to Rare Earth pricing, the three major global trading blocs will drive up the price, just from a pure electrification and enviromental angle or strategic independence even without Trade War escalating.
USA;
- Simple Covid has taught USA that a single source of a key strategic material is a bad idea and to enable alternate source of supply the Fed is doling out the cash. To America going green is secondary to "sense of weakness" of being reliant on its biggest adversary.
EU;
- EU has realised that they must diversify away from both China and USA to withstand any future supply constraint and are doling out green cash to secure investment in its own supply. Everyday with Lynas getting closer to USA, EU not having its own reliable source of REE is a threat to its Renewable Energy sector and high tech industries
China;
- China's biggest concern is Chinese budgeoning middle class not USA or EU.
- Chinese middle class no longer accept smog as normal and Chinese no longer work to survive, local enviroment plays a key role in in keeping people happy.
- The enviromental concerns will mean more stringent mining regulations just like China have already done to Coal/Oil mines and limiting smog intensive industries be it steel or power generation.
- Dirty legal/illegal cheap polluting mines will disapear, meaning REE more expensive to mine and Chinese governement more than other world governments will realise they need foreign REE miners to come online to increase supply to drive world prices down because like coal and iron ore which China has huge reserves and the biggest miners, they will ALSO need to buy from foriegn producers to meet local REE needs.
Only reason for NdPR price to collaspe is when the we no longer needs magnets for its two main users EV and wind turbines.
