As a technical person in Engineering industry, I don’t think roof estimating software can be patented.
I have not seen anyone patented road design or building design software. Usually they follow same principles to develop the software product, but there may be slight differences when you use the software.
I understand that Verisk basically copied every step of Eagleview software and that’s why they paid the penalty.
I am not aware whether pushpin which Nearmap acquired for roof estimating had copied each step of Eagleview software, then Nearmap is in trouble.
for me, it’s not a patent infringement, more of plagiarism issue to the max.
