    I see drones as a major plus. Nearmap would equally deploy drones so the competitive advantage is unchanged and in fact swings back in their favour due to their data handling infrastructure/experience.

    All that would happen with drones is update frequency would go up, data rates would go up (dramatically) and the image quality would be better as it is likely the drone would be flying lower. There could be other sensors as well - adding to data ingest issues. A LiDAR scanner would be an obvious inclusion, and perhaps lower-res multi/hyper-spectral cameras, along with who knows what else.

    2cm or even 1cm RGB imagery would be the first result (+lidar point cloud) - vs the more typical 7.5cm or 4cm we are seeing at the moment.

    That isn't a 4x improvement (8cm/2cm = 4) - but a 16x times improvement along with the corresponding deluge in data.

    As to drone capability/likelihood - take a look at Insitu in Queensland and their BVLOS rating. They (drones) are coming. Which makes capture cheaper anyway.
