    Norfolk Island Pine..

    Araucaria heterophylla

Well.. That is what I identified from your beautiful picture.

    A magnificent coastal tree...

NOT a Pine in the true sense ...

The only true pines in Australia are..

    Pinus elliottii
    Pinus caribaea
    Pinus hondurensis
    Pinus radiata
    Pinus, etc.....
There are so very many...! All imported)

If the genus is not Pinus, then the tree is not technically a Pine.

    So.. Just sharing useless knowledge..

We have no true Pines in Australia.

    Hoop Pine
    Bunya pine
    Norfolk Island pine
    Wollemi pine

Are all Araucaria genus, not pinus....

But even our magnificent and prized..

    Western Cypress Pine.
    Coastal Cypress Pine...
    Bribie Island Pine
    Are not the Genus Pinus..

    They are Callitris

    Useless knowledge..
I am sorry but just share some of what I know.

    Stringy barks.
    Iron barks
    Oakes,
and a plethora of others are not understood!!!

I will leave you with a surprising and remarkable fact.

Balsa Wood is an Angiosperm..... Therfore... Balsa Wood is a Hardwood!!

    Amazing reality..

Both Botany and Taxonomy are magnificent, if you're a little crazy ..

    Regards

    Ken
