NearMap is an online SaaS company providing high quality and current PhotoMaps over cities that are updated every month. With coverage of more than 75% of Australia’s population regularly updated and available online, the high resolution PhotoMaps are enabling savvy Australian organisations to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of key business functions.

Owning the enginieering and product development side of the business I changed the product development life cycle fundamentally. Introduction of agile methodologies, better collaboration and employee motivation were key in this process. But also the large amount of digital imagery required radical thinking in terms of storage and architecture, to allow persistency, but also fast access and throughput. To achieve this, but also optimise operations and to reduce complexity we moved the entire infrastructure (>100 Servers, >1PB of data) to AWS (Amazon Web Services).

On the product side we established the first e-commerce store for Nearmap (educational sector), as well as new key functionality like street number search.
