Yes, I guess my description does sound "akin to tacking downwind" using asymmetrical spinnakers.
But punching 30-40 knot headwinds coming straight down the Rhumb Line into 5 metre waves is not fun.
A slight cracking of the sheets, another 2 knots and the VMG can get you back to the Rhumb Line quicker.
I see AAPT and Brindabella have gone in close to land whilst the leading Volvo 60, Seriously 10 is doing the
"swinging out wide & cutting in fast" thing.
