Barring some major new revelation; all those 'bad news stories' about Julia Gillard are already out there - they are already factored into the polls.

Gillard held an open-ended news conference to allow journalists to ask whatever questions they had and she answered them until they had no more - mainstream Australians may not like Gillard's past but they accept that she has been held to account for it!

The same is not yet true for Tony Abbott. If he persists with the attempt to assassinate Gillard's character he does so at his own peril - the public are sick and tired of gutter politics and will severely punish those who persist.

Abbott's exaggerations, distrortions and misrepresentations over the CT/ETS and MRRT have now come back to haunt him. The economy didn't spontaneously combust, Whyalla is still on the map, rises in power bills attributable to the CT were 10% as forecast!

Meantime Gillard has moved onto the big picture stuff - white papers on what developments in Asia require of Australia for example. Julie Bishop has cottoned one and acknowledged the importance of visions embodied in reports such as Gonski and now on our Asian future.

But dear old Tony Abbott has already fluffed that one - instead, he chose to insult Malaysia, Indonesia and China!His inability to get across the detail probably explains his failure to respond this morning - leaving it all to Julie Bishop.

Abbott is the one who has no vision, no strategic plan and no explanation as to how the budget will be aligned to our future.
