Black Saturday closure vital, says judge

Robert Richter QC, acting for lead plaintiff Carol Matthews, said only four objections to the settlement amount had been received out of 5847 claimants who are party to an estimated 10,000 claims.
"The absence of objection speaks volumes to the issues of whether the amount of settlement is fair and reasonable," he said. (*)

Justice Osborn said only two "relevant" objections to the deal were received out the 5000 people involved in the class action.
"Those objections do not demonstrate by any evidence or otherwise that the settlement should be rejected," he said.

Only two members objected to the settlement out of a total of 5000 group members.

No subtlety there; and why should I be subtle?

My urgings to adopt preventative measures as far back as “Freeze” calls were treated as if
a leprosy-infested tirade to be derailed at all costs.
Counter campaigns were waged for no other reasons than “personality attritions”.
We lost sight of member unity when recognition of utmost priorities and urgencies came before us.
Today many, including some of my acquaintances in legal profession, recall the freeze campaign
(of PIF assets through ASIC) as the crucial starting point of our journey to respectable recovery.
It was then that the porosity of “PIF support” might have settled in, might be before.

A pity that none of the PIF silent majority, perhaps not wishing to interfere in the spectacles
of “personality attritions”, had the forward-oriented perceptions to recognize that words
by Robert Richter QC will one day apply to them.

Perhaps now that the settlement farce is behind us, these silent (or suppressed) voices may
find an outlet here by penning their summations in the interests of “letting off steam.”

    Regards,
