As far as I can see, Shearwood is the only 249d nominee with mining experience. But when searching for more information about this experience, there not much on offer, i.e., at the 'coal face'. Seems he has spent most of his career 'pushing a pen' in an office environment. I found nothing at all on Linked In, which to me seems odd, particularly since he has been around for a while in business circles. I found something about him with regard to an outfit called Sanlam. They took over a business that Shearwood started in 2008 called Atom. It seems that in 2011 Sanlam didn’t require his services any more. The Bloomberg site mentions a bit about him but strangely enough the Atom/Sanlam years don’t get a mention. After 2011 I found nothing at all about him until May ’15. At that time, he became MD of Leigh Creek Energy; a very promising explorer in South Aust. It seems that the flying fickle finger of fate struck again because he was gone in Sept ’16. After that there is no record of his business activities apart from what I read about him in the ‘Letter to Shareholders’. There it said he was a consultant for Kemosabe at one point. However, subsequent viewing of Kemo’s website revealed that he had been airbrushed out the web-door.
Take what you like from the above. I mean everybody has had career false-starts. You learn from it and move on. However, in this situation, his experience is not useful to AGR. They simply don’t need this experience. The phosphate project is a shovel/truck operation. Later, much later, the copper project may need a mining engineer, who knows at this stage.
As for the other nominees, yes, they have useful experience by the looks of thing. But they are starting from long way back, particularly if the current management follow through with their threat. Project approvals will most certainly be delayed.
In closing, when I saw Shearwood’s signature on the 249d application, I was taken aback. It is posted below. ‘Pen pushing’ for many years; I just can’t see it?
