Are you serious...people make investment strategies based on tax treatment, if they didn't nobody would care if negative gearing was scrapped!
You can negative gear stocks but I think this shouldn't be allowed...we have warrants and options....negative gearing should only be for people or companies who provide something new, not for speculation/investing which is essentially in the share/property market.
Negative gearing for farmers/miners business etc....now that's a bit more complicated
Your logic would be the equivalent of only allowing tax losses on IPOs and not current listed stocks.

Well that depends on what planet you live in .
IPO's are already companies they are just going public from private, public and private companies all negative gear if they borrow....you are talking apples with oranges here...an ipo is not a new company.
