Why should business's, sharemarket speculators be allowed to do it, but real estate investors cannot?
I cannot write share losses off against my main income. The negative gearing should be quaranteed against the asset that generated those losses, to discourage market distortions where assets are intentionally loss making.
An example is renting a property out for mates rates to a relative or associate, leaving taxpayers to subsidise this.
Seroberro the genious Keating removed it but not for long because it was a disaster,caused an acute shortage of rental accommodation
Yet no other countries experience this phenomenon, because few countries allow negative gearing against your main income. Australia is different, but not *that* different.
