Govts will end up taxing the private home down the track unless they balance the budget and reduce the burden of govt. They have already played around with super and the biggest un-taxed nest egg in the country is the home. It is also over priced and not affordable for many people so it is fast becoming one of the countries largest social problems. I think they will end up calling it an exit duty on the sale of a home based on profit. For those who think its BS, take a look at the carbon, mining, GST and super fund rorts caused by incompetent govts hungry to pay for their inability to add up. They already tax people on the way in via stamp duty, so dont be surprised if they do the same on the way out one day. It will take a brave govt or a desperate one. You can rely on the desperate one in due course.
