    Yeah but in the 60s and 70s and 80s one income paid the mortgage and cost of living. The average house price to average annual wage was around 2 times in the early 80s. Now it is six times that in some cities for properties miles miles out from the CBD - hence why two parents work. Times are very different and remember in the 70s and 80s uni education was also free - young professional couples have a mortgage and a whopping uni bill to pay off these days.

    At a time everyone is been asked to tighten their belts to bring the budget back to balance I would expect NG to be targeted. Most investments are in established houses hence driving prices up - NG was meant to increase housing supply which it has failed to do (hence the ALP policy, not that I like BS but can't believe the two brain cells in his head have appropriately targeted the issue here).

    On high income earners the issue is a lot use NG to reduce their taxable income significantly hence pay minimal tax. Refer:
