As someone who benefits from negative gearing, I hope it's here to stay but as an economist.... it's one of the dumbest initiatives in the Australian housing industry.
Approximately only 15% of the population benefit from it so I'm not so sure it's political suicide and I feel a good indication of a good idea is how widely its copied....
No other country has negative gearing in such a beneficial structure as ours which I feel is pretty telling... There's plenty of global housing markets that are far more sustainable and functional than ours, is it really so hard to take a leaf out of their books!?
