I used to review mining/exploration companies for possible M & A and worked on Simberi during the early exploration phase.
Allied (previously owner of Simberi and Gold Ridge before being taken over by St Barbara) came up a number of times, usually from investment bankers and analysts with almost no experience in mining and no experience in working in PNG and the Solomons. I rejected the proposal every time. I could not believe the price St Barbara paid for Allied.
