That is because the sciatic nerve runs from your lumbar spine down your femur and then branches to the common peroneal and tibial nerbes.
There are also two types of pain, nociceptive and nueropathic pain. What you are describing is nueropathic pain and a panadol won't help you. That is why they gave you a cortisone injection to reduce the swelling/inflammation in your bludging disc so it would stop compressing the nerve.
