    In simple terms NPV brings future Cash flows back to present day values.

    So if you doing some business and it will give a profit of $ 100 in 5 years, NPV estimates what that money is worth now.

    That is how much would you pay today to collect $ 100 in 5 years

    This will depend on the discount % which is selected

    You can simulate this in excel quite easily
