tijuana2, short selling is when you sell shares you don't own so you can buy them later at a smaller price making a profit. If I follow you correctly, in your example this was taking loss. Also, 1.5M is a round number, lots of buyers buy and sell in round numbers so it's not necessarily the same buyer and seller.
Also, I'm not sure GCN shares can be shorted at all.
