Laziness? I think people do underestimate the brand and first mover advantage. Getting a consumer to download an app and make an account is hard (I mean this unironically - attention spans have never been shorter). Once I have Afterpay on my phone, why would I download a different app?

Its not like Uber/Lyft either, where I can compare prices and availability. Afterpay doesn’t cost me anything and is identical to the other offerings. Now 10 of my friends tell me to recommend Afterpay, 1 of them recommends Sezzle. Of course I try Afterpay, and why would I ever even consider switching from it? The only way to compete with Afterpay is to be even simpler. That’s why I think Klarna is their only potential competitor, you don’t even have to make an account or download anything, just enter your email and you’re done. For all the others (Zip, Sessel, etc.), there is zero reason why they would suddenly be able to take users from Afterpay.
