Morning all (esp Filter 48),

I have no idea if there is any real correlation between vaccines and autism. Have read of studies (notably one from Japan) suggesting there is no link, but read of numerous children who seemed to change for the worse very soon after receiving vaccines. I personally have a son with very severe autism and development issues. At 21 he watches Blues Clues most of the day . As an aside, he was born at 27 weeks (and at around 1 kg) and I have kicked myself constantly since then for not demanding vaccines being given x weeks from his expected date rather than his actual birth date. My main question has always been whether the medical fields have taken any concerns seriously or just brushed them off. I do not believe potential links with vaccines were taken seriously in the past, and hope they are being (or have already been) investigated properly now, as you do Filter 48.

BTW, there is no need for sympathy re my son or I - he is actually much happier than a lot of 'neureo-typical' kids I know. And a lot better off (with apologies if this is not an ideal way to phrase it) than kids with much worse conditions such as Retts. Reading of Kateline and Mel has been a real eye opener (thanks Mel if you read all threads) … I know we all hope NEU ends up helping kids like Katelin for the rest of their lives.

Good news is that my initial reason for investing in NEU many years ago was when I started looking for companies that may help autism. Has been a wonderful ride to date, and I sincerely hope that we will all have something to do with helping kids with a whole range of issues. Very much appreciated recent posts pointing out that NEU are now aiming to look at conditions caused by genetic issues (Retts / ASD disorders) and accidents / physical problems (HIE... maybe TBI at some point). I personally hope the next trial announced will be degenerative issues (conditions such as Parksons / MS , but conditions that are small enough to be considered orphan / rare). But if not – I know Jon and company definitely do not need my advice.
