You are also correct in saying that the Ni pigiron industry is energy intensive, and dirty due to emissions. However, during the nickel boom of the mid 2000’s, the nickel price peaked so sharply that Chinese producers were starting up furnaces with absolutely no regard to efficiency or environmental stewardship.

From what I have heard (and I am in the industry) is that current market intel suggests that there has been some consolidation in the pigiron industry in China, with better technology being adapted, fly-by-nights being pushed out of the market, and the industry tidying themselves up to some sort of degree.

Better stewardship of course implies a higher cost of production, so maybe the cap on nickel may move up from the previous $8-10$/lb, but IMHO I don’t think we will see anywhere near the lofty heights of the past. Irrespective where stock levels may go.

Thanks for that. When I thought about it my investment in CZI isn't dependent on a Ni price going super high like last time.
I did write a post on the overcorrection of prices due to the "stickiness" or momentum of prices due to the need for impetus reticent capital to respond with supply. It will be our challenge and we will meet it profitably (or learn from it).
