I think you’ll find a clue in the fact that in the after close someone carefully places buy orders to chase down the sell orders, to just a few cents below that which would cause the price to close higher for the day.
All hypothetical of course because the ASX has asked brokers to self-regulate, so that manipulation cannot occur.
