thanks for that.
i was fishing for the second half of your answer. writing puts essentially forces the market maker to sell the underlying (potentially by borrowing it).
and writing calls forces the market maker to buy the stock. all relative to the contract size and delta of the option.
i write some options now and again, and the market depth is usually pretty sparse if you dont count the market makers bid/offer. its usually quite a wide spread.
