Grynberg Petroleum Co. affiliate RSM Production Corp. inked an exploration agreement with the Societe Naciaonale des Hydrocarbures (SNH) to explore a 25,000-sq mi onshore block in the Douala-Kribi-Campo basin in Cameroon. The block has four shut-in gas wells with an estimated recoverable reserve of 80 Bcf and 16 million bbl of condensate.

RSM to exploit natural gas in Cameroon

RSM Production has signed a $ 3.51 mm contract to exploit natural gas in Cameroon's port city of Douala. RSM, an affiliate of US oil company Grynberg Petroleum, said that under the deal it would conduct feasibility studies on the 62 sq km Logbaba gas fields -- an on-field site east of Douala -- for two years. The accord says the licence can be renewed twice.

Exploration of the gas reserves was initially handed to Elf in 1974, but the firm relinquished the field in November 1999, "due to economic reasons".

RSM Production specializes in natural gas production. It recently signed a contract to produce natural gas in Grenada, which will be exported to the US and Europe.

A Cameroon government source told that the firm "has ambitions to acquire more mining licences in the Central African sub region, most especially in Gabon, Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic."
