COUGAR ENERGY ACCELERATES PROGRESS ON KINGAROY UNDERGROUND COAL GASIFICATION PROJECT Cougar Energy Ltd (ASX Code: CXY) is pleased to announce further corporate and technical progress in the development of its Kingaroy Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) Project in Queensland. This project involves the use of UCG technology to produce a fuel gas to be used in the phased development of a 400MW power generation project. The developments announced today in relation to the Kingaroy project include:- • The commencement next month of a new drilling program at the site of the proposed Kingaroy Pilot Burn • The appointment of Mr Rodney Watson as full-time, joint Company Secretary and Chief Accountant. • The opening of a Brisbane office. • The creation of a new position, Kingaroy Project Manager “New senior staff appointments, establishment of a Brisbane office and ongoing field activity mark the commencement of a new phase in the Company’s progress towards the development of a successful commercial development of UCG technology,” Cougar Energy’s Managing Director, Dr Len Walker, said today. “Mr Watson, who will be based at Cougar’s corporate head office in Melbourne, has formal economics and business qualifications, and has more than 12 years audit, accounting and company secretarial experience,” Dr Walker said. “He brings to Cougar Energy the appropriate financial control mechanisms on a full-time basis, to ensure that the Company is well equipped to handle its rapid expansion over the coming years. “Our current Company Secretary, Mr Andrew Metcalfe, will continue to provide secretarial services for an appropriate time to ensure a smooth transfer of responsibilities.” Cougar Energy has also created a new position of Kingaroy Project Manager to oversee the UCG-power station project through its technical design and approval processes, and is opening an office in Brisbane as a base for project development. Dr Walker said that as an interim measure, the Company has seconded an experienced project engineer from its consultants, Worley Parsons, and anticipates making a long-term appointment to the position in the coming months. “Cougar Energy also anticipates its new drilling program will commence at Kingaroy in mid-August,” he said. “This program will be focussed on detailed characterisation work at the site selected for the Pilot Burn, including the installation of groundwater pressure and water sampling bores, in-situ pump testing, and the installation of the first three injection and production wells. “Addition drilling will also be undertaken to expand the coal resource.”
