A FORMER senior public servant has been charged with unauthorised disclosure of information to lobbyist Brian Burke, after a corruption inquiry.

Gary Wayne Stokes, 52, of Hillarys, former Deputy Director General of the Department of Industry and Resources, was charged after a Corruption and Crime Commission investigation into alleged misconduct by public officers and lobbying.

At the time of the alleged offence, Mr Burke was representing a property developer.

The charge resulted from the Commission’s investigation of alleged misconduct by public officers and lobbying and was one of the matters dealt with at public hearings held by the Commission between October 2006 and March 2007.

A report on the matter – the rezoning of land at Whitby, 38km south of Perth – was tabled in the Parliament by the Commission last month.

Mr Stokes is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday December 12.

Mr Burke was also charged with corruption last week, along with fellow-lobbyist Julian Grill and former Labor Cabinet Minister Norm Marlborough.

A number of WA senior public servants have found themselves involved in allegations of misconduct but have so far escaped prosecution over their dealings with Mr Burke and Mr Grill.

They include former Department of Health director-general Neale Fong and senior Health Department officer Michael Moodie, former environmental protection authority chairman Wally Cox, former Department of Planning and Infrastructure deputy director Paul Frewer and the same department's senior officer, Mike Allen.
