The Bimal Jalan panel will next meet on the 10th February to further scrutinise the 25 new applicants for a Banking Licence in India.
Presently there is 27 Public Sector Banks, 22 Private Sector Banks and 56 Regional Rural Banks whom hold Banking Licences.
Included in the new 25 applicants are : India Post - Public sector IFCI - Public sector Anil Ambani Group - Private sector Aditya Birla Group - Private sector Bajaj Finance - Private sector Muthoot Finance - Private sector Religare Enterprises - Private sector Shriram Capitol - Private sector
The last banking Licences were granted way back in 2003-04 so it has been quite a while since any New players have entered this space.
