I saw a snippet on TV the other night about a set of glasses with a camera on the side for people with poor sight. The idea is that they can look at text & the camera translates the text to audio.
Text to audio technology has been around since the 1970s.
Similar technology is used in phone apps which read signs and text in foreign languages (and convert to speech if ncessary)
It shouldn't be too hard to go another step to image recognition, including facial & tell the wearer what or who the camera is "seeing".
It is million to billions of times harder than reading text. The world most powerful supercomputer probably couldn't do it in real time.
