The initial land holding has to be cut back after so many years. The mining permit is for land you will look to mine in the future. Any areas of land that has not shown good prospects for iron ore has to be given back to the Government. This would allow others to look and mine other minerals on this land. SDL has to pay rent on tenements,so handing back land they do not class as iron producing land will cut back on future rent charges.
