Channel 7 tonight claim that they were showing new footage of the Australia Day drama.
I'm the first to admit that you would have had to be there to get a true sense of a possible looming threat to the PM, which obviously the security detachment, Gillard and Abbott all thought was real enough.
However, the footage, to me at least, didn't seem to show the protesters attempting any violence, or, be particularly worked up for that matter. All the action seemed to come from the security detail, rushing their 'packages' to safety in a most dramatic way. For the life of me, I couldn't see why the police couldn't have pushed the protesters back a short distance, allowing Gillard and Abbott to make a less dramatic exit. I couldn't even say Gillard and Abbott had to 'run the gauntlet' of the protesters, because it didn't appear that they were even chased.
All seems a bit over the top to my way of thinking....but, as I said, I wasn't there.
