The justice system and hence the judges in Indonesia don't neccessarily look at what is right for the individual but what is right for the broader community. Drug trafficing has been a big problem in most Asian countries over the years and apart from their own concerns, they have been told by western countries to get the problem under control, hence in recent decades we have seen very strict laws being put in place in most countries. Hence the judges are always looking to send an appropriate message to the world. If the media hadn't got hold of this story the judges wouldn't be under as much pressure as they are now. Unless someone can provide them with something that allows them to be lenient whilst being seen as upholding Indonesia's position on drug trafficking, she is likely to get a long jail sentence. Forget about the death penalty, there is no precedence for it to be handed down for a case such as this.
