The various shares these guys own is typically a small fraction of their overall wealth. I know nothing about the person you mention but I dare say at this point their main considerations are their reputations (doing their jobs sufficiently well to ensure they're not under undue scrutiny) and the bank shareholders which as you've pointed out include themselves.
The best interests of bank shareholders at this point are very much served by thinking about the share price in 3 years, not 3 weeks. I don't think all bank directors are brilliant but at this stage of the game I think all of them at least understand that much.
