Iron content is a very valid measure when studying the effect of an iron chelator. But when the 201 study was planned, there was no understanding that brain tissues present both paramagnetic and diamagnetic susceptibility in MRI imaging ( see the paper above), and even myelin content and oxygen metabolism changes. So the result of the 201 study could not separate all these factors that influence the MRI image. This is why the best measure of efficacy in the 201 study is to use the UMSARS score. We do not understand what the "healing" of MSA looks like in MRI pictures. Most likely, it is not only a loss of iron.
