Sub Sahara starts new drilling campaign at Mabale Hills, Tanzania
Australian resources company Sub-Sahara Resources (ASX:SBS) has commenced drilling at the Sizu River prospect (Mabale Hills Project) in Tanzania, East Africa (Figure1). This project forms part of the Lake Victoria joint venture with Canadian-listed Company, Currie Rose Resources Inc.
The new drilling programs follows on from the Rotary Air Blast (RAB) and Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling programme completed in June 2008 at the Simba and Dhahabu Prospects (Figure 1).
The latest programme will test geological and structural settings, immediately west of the Mwamazengo discovery and the Sisu River anomaly. The drilling campaign comprises approximately 900 metres of Cover-Bedrock Interface (CBI) drilling and 1,050 metres of Rotary Air Blast (RAB) drilling at the Sizu River Prospect where a strong anomaly lies on strike from the +500,000 oz Kitongo gold deposit.
Sub Sahara Managing Director Michael Griffiths said mineralisation at the Sizu River Prospect appeared to be associated with cross cutting quartz veins within the country rock.
“The CBI drilling is expected to reveal details of the geology and the structure of soil covered bedrock that Sub Sahara has interpreted to consist of tightly folded banded ironstone formation (BIF) and granitic intrusions,” Mr Griffiths said.
“This drilling will test for gold mineralisation associated with artisanal workings with coincident anomalous rock-chip samples.” In addition, a further 1,200 metres of CBI drilling will be completed immediately to the West of the historic Mwamazengo discovery and the adjacent Simba Prospect. The results of drilling will be announced over the coming weeks.
