As a trader I can claim more expenses as well for both GST and Income tax , ie can claim part of home as an office expense (including insurance and power ) , accountant expenses , research papers and travel expenses (two overseas trips this year but have to show receipts ) .
Better to stick within the law from day 1 but also work with an accountant in a firm that knows the tax laws in detail concerning share portfolios , even if they seem more expensive initially .
