Council backs planned ethanol plant
Millmerran Shire Council on the Darling Downs has given the green light to a proposal to build a ethanol processing plant.
The proposal would see the plant produce up to 72 megalitres of ethanol each year and the nearby Lemontree feedlot expand to house 20,000 head of cattle.
The by-product of the ethanol production process would be used to feed cattle at the feedlot.
Millmerran Mayor Paul Antonio says the proposal has many benefits for the community.
"First of all there'll be employment, not only in the construction phase but also in the running stage of it," he said.
"But more importantly the advent of ethanol plants will put a floor in the price of grain. There'll be far more interest in buying grain. That's good for the region."
