Good to hear a bit of talk about Whyalla. I was born and lived there as a child up until 11 years old. Awesome place to grow up as a kid in the 80's and early 90's. Could go out in the bush catching lizards (and sometimes snakes... Whoops!) all day, or spend a whole weekend fishing on the jetty or off the rocks under the BHP conveyor.

My brother, myself and two mates - aged 9 to 13 used to head off at about 3am early Saturday morning with about 6 rods, buckets, tackle boxes, radio and only 3 bikes (I'd get dinkied on the handle bars holding most of the gear). It'd take around an hour to get there, stay all day Saturday, Saturday night and then head home around Sunday arvo. If we were lucky, Mum would come up with food and to take home any fish. Otherwise we'd live off hot chips all weekend. Awesome times, and I doubt kids that age would be able to do anything like that these days. One of the best fishing spots around.

Good to hear about BHP too. My only memories about that are getting caught too many times fishing on site and getting kicked out. Plus going on a tour with school where I got my index finger caught in a door and losing about 15mm off the top. Now I'm left with a bit of a stump!

Sorry for the off topic post, was good to reminisce though.
