This news has been discussed in detail on other company forums before, it is not new. This battery if successful would be more than 5 years off before it made any real impact on the EV battery market.
CATL is still investing heavily into Nickel and Cobalt supply lines as they know for the forseeable future the current battery type will be dominant for some time. The battery factories in China and Europe are all designed with current battery metal combinations in mind as well as long lead times for current and future EV vehicles in the production pipeline.
Tesla has stated they will stop using Cobalt also, however have invested further into it knowing cobalt-less batteries are some time away and the need for these metals now is crucial to current and short-mid term requirements.
Although it is an interesting article I believe you can bet your bottom dollar that Nickel will be in high demand for some time after PM1 commissions its plant.
