I actually only just realised that the big drop last week coincided with the violent escalation of the demonstration situation in Bangkok with the grenade attack that killed a demonstrator. As GoldBars pointed out, you have a pretty big sovereign risk associated with Thailand and I am sure that had soemthing to do with the pricking of the positive sentiment bubble that was generated by the gold find.

Unfortunately, it is a fact of life that KCN will be priced at a discount to its peers until some vaguely ordered resolution (if any) can be found for the political stalemate, because what everyone fears the most is a violent resolution.

I did chuckle over the weekend though as SiameseParrot was right in the end about the gold price spiking upwards by $50. However I was also right about the opportunity to buy in much lower, which I have... goes to show that we need to expect the unexpected...
