For nearly a century the world has been on first Stirling then US Dollar as the international benchmark currency. Before that there was a gold standard where all paper money was backed by a pledge of it's value in gold
Not everyone likes this - and not least those who cop a slap from UK or US or both for transgressing, or just being in the wrong place. Right now the perceived bravado by the US and The White House is causing more than a little apprehension.
A return to the Gold Standard has been suggested, but there is simply not enough gold to go round and would require a huge increase in price of gold.
If Wit2 has as much gold as has ever been mined (I have no evidence of that - but the extent, grade and thickness which has been discussed could support that hypothesis) then it could support a new Gold Standard.
IMO HH might be here to prevent N. American interests from doing a grab of the lot.
I draw your thoughts to the fact that DL is a very well healed player, with access to high levels of international finance and business both in Asia and Europe - a new Gold Standard could be an issue he might champion.
What the format would be - how shareholders of Wit2 companies as owners of the resource would be treated, and Australia too for that matter (by law the minerals in the ground in Australia are the property of the Crown, and can only be extracted under license - IMO -

Anyway - today's news is exciting, and suggests again that this could be the play of a lifetime.
