    You are probably right Dave,

But if you step back and look at it from a different angle:

1/ the problem of Islam seems to be more one of the current confrontational, battlefield-type brainwashing of their greatly expanding youth population that has been underway over the last 20 or so years. It does not seem to be an accident that almost all moslem countries have huge youthful populations that suggest the uniform adoption of a common strategy to out-populate the non-moslem world sometime in the last 20-30 years. The timing corresponds incidentally to the formation of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Congress), but that could be incidental.

2/ Given the existence of these large populations, unless the western world gives up and decides to surrender as some of the posters to this board would seem to favour, or unless we just go in and kill them all, the problem of population control in these large communities will continue to be one that it is likely that the west must address. Most moslem communities seem unable or unwilling to devote much of their efforts to rational development of their communities.

3/ My opinion of Islam, if it were to be refocussed in some ways, is that it is an outstanding population control system. Look at what the Taliban managed in Afganistan, wow.

Since these people seem to want Islam and the strictest form of it so much, it would seem prudent to make sure they get what they want. It couldnt happen to a more deserving group of people really.

4/ This leads to an obvious direction for the non islamic world to take... Islam should be re-configured so as not to be a threat to the west... and so that the outstanding, tho somewhat severe, population control system is put into effective use in moslem communities throughout the world.

There in lies the value of Islam to the western world. As a way to control these large population groups for the forseeable future.

A high-jacking of the current leadership of radical and possibly all of islam and a subsequent refocussing over a suitable time scale, probably 5 to 10 years, would seem to be a sensible stragey to adopt.

I would be surprised if elements of the US defence establishment did not have some from of this as one of their possible scenarios for the future.
